Position: China Managing Director
Report to: Global CEO (Based at Europe)
Working Location: Shanghai
Team Size: <50, covering a trading company and a production workshop
The hiring company belongs to a globally recognized industrial Group, family-owned, with a long-standing presence in the Chinese for about 30 years. The company represents a key business entity of the Group in China, operating with a high degree of local responsibility and decision-making authority. As a key player in the niche market, and
with a team of more than no more than 50 employees, the company operates a big warehouse and assembly workshop and manages warehouse-style sales of high quality
stainless-steel products, including tubes and pipes, hygienic fittings, connectors, process vessels, valves, heat exchangers, etc The company serves customers in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical and biotechnology, chemical, and food & beverage industries.
The Managing Director will assume full P&L responsibility for the China business, with accountability for revenue growth, profitability, cost control, and cash flow. In close alignment with Group strategy, the role is responsible for defining and executing the local business strategy, leading and developing the organization, and ensuring sustainable long-term performance in the Chinese market.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the owners, board of directors and other executives to develop high quality business strategies and plans ensuring their alignment with current and long-term goals, and related plans and policies.
- Oversee all operations and business activities to ensure they produce the desired results and are consistent with the overall strategy and mission.
- Evaluate the company’s financial, operational, and sales and marketing structures to plan for continual improvements and a continual increase in operating efficiencies.
- Cooperate with other Group companies and executives to plan and execute common strategic missions and goals.
- Maintain a deep knowledge of the markets and industries of the companies and divisions.
- Lead and motivate subordinates to advance employee engagement and develop a high performing managerial team.
- Responsible for managing significant uncertainties and risks that may become obstacles to the achievement of the company’s objectives.
- Serve as the company’s representative to the owners, shareholders, employees, customers, the government, and the public.
- Promotes communication and cooperation among divisions and companies to create a spirit of unity in the organization.
- Review and approve all departmental, division and company budgets. Work with CFO to prepare budgets once approved.
- Approve all agreements and contracts for the organization.
- Enforce adherence to all applicable laws and in-house policies to maintain the company’s legality and business ethics.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Proven experience as a CEO or in other managerial positions.
- Candidates need five to ten years’ experience in the sanitary industry with fittings, tubing, valves preferably in the pharmaceutical market.
- Candidates must have a strong background in a high-level management role.
- Expertise in project-oriented sales and experiences with heating exchanger units, purifying water plants, food and beverage units or equipment.
- Strong understanding of corporate finance and performance management principles.
- Excellent managerial skills and the ability to take leadership over any business operations area.
- Strong networking capabilities to foster trusted relationships with stakeholders at customers.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Familiarity with diverse business functions such as marketing, sales, finance, IT, HR, QC, purchasing, warehousing, and manufacturing.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field required. Advanced degree preferred but not required.
- Position will be located at Shanghai facility
- Traveling – the job requires traveling inside and outside China to meet customers, business partners and suppliers.
- Languages: Fluent English (German would be an advantage)
