Job Title: HR BP – China (Single Contributor)
Location: Shanghai
Reporting Line: Europe HQ
Company Type: European trading company, China branch
Local Headcount: 20–30 employees
Role Overview:
This is a standalone HR role covering all HR responsibilities for the China branch. As the first and only HR professional locally, you will support 20–30 employees and work closely with local staff as well as stakeholders at all levels – including senior leadership – both in China and at Europe HQ. You are expected to operate independently with minimal supervision, demonstrate mature judgment, and act as a trusted HR advisor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recruitment & Onboarding:Manage end-to-end hiring for local positions; coordinate with Europe HQ on approvals
- Employee Lifecycle:Handle contracts, probation reviews, promotions, transfers, and offboarding
- Payroll & Benefits:Process monthly payroll, social insurance, housing fund, and other statutory benefits; liaise with local vendors if any
- HR Policies & Compliance:Develop and implement local HR policies in line with China labor law and HQ guidelines; ensure full compliance
- Employee Relations:Serve as the main point of contact for employee inquiries, concerns, and conflict resolution; conduct exit interviews
- Performance Management:Support managers in goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback delivery
- Stakeholder Management:Regularly communicate and align with Europe HQ (including senior leaders) on HR matters; advise local non-HR managers on people issues
- Administration:Maintain personnel files, manage visas/work permits, and coordinate with local authorities as needed
- Ad-hoc Projects:Support organizational initiatives such as team engagement, policy rollouts, or cross-border projects
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree or above in HR, Business, or related field
- Minimum 5–7 years of generalist HR experience, preferably in foreign-owned trading, manufacturing, or SME environments
- Proven experience as a standalone or lead HR person – able to work independently with limited local support
- Mature, poised, and politically savvy:comfortable interacting with senior management both locally and in Europe
- Strong knowledge of China labor law, payroll, and social security systems
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)– must be able to lead conversations, present HR updates, and handle sensitive topics with Europe HQ confidently
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication skills
- High sense of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail
